Meet Our Voices

Heather Johnson

My name is Heather Johnson.  I was born and raised in Jonesboro, Arkansas.  I am a proud Arkansas State University alumnus with my bachelor’s degree in nursing.  I am a melanoma survivor and don’t mind talking to anyone about my journey to bring awareness to skin health and sun safety.

I was six years old when I lost my grandmother and best friend to pancreatic cancer.  I know my love for people and serving came from her.   I am a registered nurse and work in the community at our local health department.  I am a huge advocate for preventive health and early detection to fight cancer.  Some examples through our women’s health program include encouraging self-monthly breast and skin checks, and then mammograms, routine pap smears, and colonoscopies- all when age appropriate or as problems arise.  Also, I am proud to promote and administer the HPV vaccine called Gardasil to pre-teens and teenagers.

I have volunteered in many ACS capacities including many events with our local Young Professionals of the American Cancer Society of NEA, Cattle Baron’s Ball of NEA, Relay for Life, and I serve on the Board of Directors for Arkansas.  I love to volunteer in general and have had the opportunity to serve on several foreign mission trips to Honduras and Guyana.

I have a big family that I enjoy spending time with.  My mother is a breast cancer survivor.  My parents and siblings have always been huge supporters in all my life endeavors.  I am happily married to my husband, John, of eleven years.  We have a Labrador named Gunner.  We are members at Valley View Church of Christ.  In our spare time we enjoy going to the lake or river and watching Razorback sports.  We are also huge fans of Universal Studios.

I love to go and see and do and serve others.  You can usually find me counting down the days until my next big adventure.

When I am not volunteering, I enjoy reading, crafts, baking, and spending time with friends.
