Debbie Abbott

Hi, my name is Debbie Abbott and I am a Survivor! I live in Geronimo, Oklahoma with my husband, Danny. We have 3 grown children, Danny W., Bryan and Christopher and I’m a proud squirrel grandma. I love to cook and bake. I’m also a proud member of the Comanche Nation Tribe and I currently work for our tribal childcare program.

I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer Dec. 2023 and then diagnosed with lung cancer in Jan. 2024. I completed chemo in May 2024 for my ovarian cancer and I am being monitored for the lung cancer. During my treatments I was able to stay at the Chad Richison Hope Lodge in Oklahoma City.

I became active with the American Cancer Society in 2005 through Relay For Life. When I first began supporting Relay, I never dreamed that one day I would benefit from ACS services. I would like to think that I contributed a brick or two to help build that wonderful place for cancer patients. What a relief it was to not have to worry about the expense of going to a hotel room. As a guest there I was welcomed with open arms by the staff and other guests, some of which I continue to keep in touch with. Hope Lodge will hold a special place in my heart and I give back to them as much as I can.

As a Survivor, I was fortunate enough to know how the American Cancer Society could assist me and my family. I look forward to this new opportunity as a Voice of Hope to help others with their journey and hopefully be an inspiration to someone.
