Meet Our Voices

In 1999 I lost my Dad to prostate cancer.  I knew nothing about cancer, but quickly learned to be my dad’s caregiver.

In 2004, I moved to Fontana.   Through a friend, I heard about Relay For Life.  My friend had a team in honor of her dad.  I joined as a participant.  The following year I decided to form a team and began my journey with Relay.  I met so many people that walked the same path as I had with my dad.

In 2012, I had a mammogram and found out that I had stage 2 breast cancer.  My personal cancer journey began.  I had six weeks of radiation treatments, but thank God, no chemo was required.  In September I was told that I was cancer free.

Advocating for a cure for cancer became my mission.  I became an Ambassador for ACSCAN and a Voice of Hope.  I also became active in Making Strides in my community.  I joined several Relays around my area as well.  I feel my biggest accomplishment is when I have shared my story and someone comes up to me and says, “you just told my story”.

My  name is Mercy Campos.  I live in Fontana, California.  I am a grandmother to 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons and one on the way.  My passion and goal in life is to hear the words “we have found a cure for cancer”.  If you want to make a difference, get involved or donate to a Relay or Strides near you.  Another area that helps immensely in the fight against cancer is to purchase a Lights of Hope bag from an ACSCAN member.
