Meet Our Voices

I am Theresa Miller from Waller, Texas.  In 2006, I was diagnosed with 3 primary cancers – Stage III Colon cancer, kidney cancer, and thyroid cancer.  My journey consisted of 3 surgeries and 9 chemo treatments.

Just weeks after my diagnosis, I took my 1st Survivor Lap at our local Relay For Life.  My daughter was the Event Lead and I had volunteered as the Accounting Lead.  At that time, I did not know Relay For Life was a signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.   I have served on the ELT each year since 2006.  I also serve on our area, region, and national Leadership Teams.

It is my goal to communicate to everyone that early detection saves lives.  I lost my sister to colon cancer in 2019 after a short 4-month journey.  Marilyn had been on our ELT since 2006 as well.  When she was 1st diagnosed, she said to me, “you remind us at every meeting to get our screenings, I haven’t had a colon screening in over 10 years.”  I couldn’t believe it.  I strongly believe she would be here today if she had gotten regular screenings.  I miss her every day.

Volunteering for ACS is my passion, but as time allows, I enjoy making cards, walking, crocheting, and other crafting.   My husband and I enjoy traveling and have visited all 50 states, Canada and Mexico.

Family is my “everything”!  I married my high school sweetheart, Mike, in 1973.  We have a daughter, Krista.  She is married to Kris.  They have blessed us with two grandsons, Karter, 12 and Konner, 4.  My favorite past time is family time.

I will continue to support the mission of the American Cancer Society:  Save Lives, Celebrate Lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer.
