Meet Our Voices

Sandy Fultz

My name is Sandy Fultz.   I live in the rural community of Tracy, Minnesota.  In March 2019, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.  My treatment involved surgery followed by 6 rounds of chemotherapy.

I am a strong advocate for a positive mindset and doing whatever it takes to make it happen.  For me, that was working, exercising, and just trying to continue life as ‘normal”.  It was important for me to take an initiative in the way I looked.  When I was “dressed”, I felt better.  This could be anything from selecting the right outfit to complement my headwear to adding bright lipstick and large earrings.  During treatment I could not control the side effects, but I could control how I felt when I walked out the door.

I had always wished there was a website that had outfit ideas for when you needed to wear your headwear.  After completing my treatment, I developed a website called stylincancer.com.  It is a place one can go to look at pictures of many outfit ideas with different headwear.  My goal has always been to make a difference to just one person.

I continue to raise awareness for signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer, a disease that is often misdiagnosed.  Involvement in our local Relay For Life makes me feel I am doing something to help my cause.  It gives me a connection to people that have the same passion as me.  The American Cancer Society is hard at work researching a cure for cancer.  As an ACS volunteer, I am happy to be a part their mission.

Free time has me spending time with my children and grandchildren. They all live close by which makes me happy.  I also enjoy walking, reading and exploring our state parks.  I most recently started a cancer support group in my local community
