Salon Mosley

My name is Salon Mosley.  I have known cancer for many years, as I’ve lost several family members to cancer.  But cancer became all too real when my husband, Sabastian, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  At the time of his diagnosis, our daughter, Sasha, was 6 months old.

I have been involved with Relay since 2010, but Relay took on a different meaning in 2014 when Sabastian was diagnosed.  “I have always been passionate about Relay.  When you get the diagnosis that your loved one has cancer and you have a 6 month old child, it turns the table on you and now you are fighting with all your might.”

I have  been a team captain with Relay since 2010.  I joined the leadership team. ELT, in 2016.  My local Relay is Relay For Life of Montgomery Metro.  I know and understand firsthand the importance of raising funds and speaking cancer awareness for the American Cancer Society.  I used several of the programs that are funded by the American Cancer Society:  the hotline, 800.227.2345, the website, www.cancer.org, Hope Lodge, and I Can Cope.  My favorite part of Relay is the Luminaria Ceremony.  It is a time of reflection; a time to “never forget”, but “always remember” those affected by cancer.

The best part of my day is spending time with Sasha.  She brings me so much joy.  We are active in our church.  I enjoy crafting, reading and watching HGTV and the Food Network.

Cancer is a disease that does not define you.  When you are diagnosed, you have a choice to let it control you or you control it.  My husband fought until he knew that God was ready for him to come home.   I will continue to support the mission of the American Cancer Society.
