I am a breast cancer PREVIVOR.
In 2016, I lost my incredible mom to triple negative breast cancer—a heartbreak that reshaped my life. Following a few of my own breast cancer scares, and determined to take control, I underwent a preventive mastectomy in 2021 to slash my risk of ever developing the disease. At my first post-op visit, the oncology surgeon revealed a stunning truth: routine pathology found several pre-cancerous lesions. Without this surgery, I would have faced a breast cancer diagnosis within a year. My choice didn’t just reduce my risk—it stopped cancer in its tracks.
A PREVIVOR is someone who takes action to reduce or eliminate the risk of a genetic cancer before it develops. I am on a mission to make this term mainstream and empower women with knowledge about this life-saving option. For me, the choice was clear, and I want others to know they have it too.
In 2022, just months after my reconstruction surgery, I competed in – and WON – the Mrs. Arizona America Pageant. Knowing I would walk that stage in a swimsuit and heels helped to drive the rebuilding of my body, but it was my passion for sharing my story that resonated most with judges. That year opened countless doors to spread the word about what it means to be a previvor and that a mastectomy isn’t the end of feeling womanly or beautiful.
Now, Volunteering with the American Cancer Society is one way that I honor the valiant fight that my mom ultimately lost, while sharing my journey to advocate for proactive health choices. I hope to inspire every woman to explore her options—whether it’s prevention, treatment, or supporting the search for a cure. My story is proof that being your own health advocate can change everything
