I was born June 7, 1981. I’m married to Damien Coleman and am blessed to have a bonus son, Damien Jr.! I love to travel, try new eateries, and skydive.
Shortly after getting married in October 2021, I was diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer in April 2022. I also carry the BRCA2 genetic mutation. I wish I’d known earlier about the genetic mutations. I found out after my aunt passed away from losing her battle with breast cancer, that she too carried the BRCA2 genetic mutation. After many chemo treatments, several surgeries, and multiple rounds of radiation, by the grace of God, I rang my bell October 13, 2023.
During several surgeries, I was also blessed to have had the opportunity to stay at the American Cancer Society- Carol Grotnes Belk Campus Hope Lodge in Charleston, SC. This opportunity saved my life. I didn’t have to worry about food, housing, and peace of mind during my recovery period. It was truly home away from home.
Because of this journey, I decided to become a motivational speaker. I’ve had several family members lose their fight to cancer. My mission is to spread awareness about breast cancer and the importance of doing self checks and timely mammograms. I look forward to being a light for others on this journey. I want to be a part of the movement that bridges the gap between the old mindset about being healthy, to the new and ever improving ways to be healthy. I have a wonderful support system. I’m truly grateful and humbled by the opportunity to share my story. I pray that I’m able to reach those that may need a little help and support to walk their journey. I look forward to this new and exciting chapter! I can’t wait to see where God leads me next!
