Meet Our Voices

Dodi Emmons

My name is Dodi Emmons.   I live in Washington, Texas with my darling husband, John.  We have been married to for 27 years.  We have 6 children and 8 grandchildren and 5 cats.  We also take care of my mom, Janice.  She lives on our property.  She is a cancer survivor.

Cancer touched my life for the first time when I was 15 years old.  My grandmother, my Mom Mom, was diagnosed with uterine cancer.  I did not realize at that time I was a caregiver to her; all I knew was that she needed me to help her through this terrible disease.  Unfortunately, my Mom Mom lost her battle that same year.  I remember my 16th birthday I kept waiting for her to come up the driveway so we could celebrate.  We have had several family members that have had cancer.  When my Daddy was diagnosed with esophageal cancer, I became his caregiver. This was a difficult time. He was told he only had 3 months, but by the grace of God and his doctors, we had him for 17 months.  During that time, my step-mom, Rona, was diagnosed will colon cancer; she passed away at the age of 66.  In 2019 my mom, Janice, was diagnosed with 2 types of skin cancer.  She is fine and doing well.  If not for my involvement with Relay For Life and being a Voice of Hope, I would have been totally lost.

I have been involved with Relay For Life since 2004.  I have served on the RFL of Grimes County (Texas) Event Leadership Team for 18 years.  I became a Voice of Hope in 2018.

Being a Voice of Hope allows me to share my stories of hope with others.  It is my desire that my story will touch people and give them a ray of hope
