My family and personal experience with breast cancer began with my mother in 1989. She is no longer with us, and this is why I chose to support the American Cancer Society after I took my first survivor lap in 2010. My name is Ramona V Ramos, and I live in the Central Valley of California. I am a 16-year breast cancer survivor. My journey began with those most feared words “You have breast cancer”.
Because of my daughter’s encouragement I sought the assistance and support from the American Cancer Society and from that time forward, I have given back to support those being diagnosed today. From fundraising and team participation in Relays, I have helped raise $6,700.00 throughout these past 16 years. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer has become my personal choice of support. The American Cancer Society has the tools to connect those touched by cancer and together with your support we can stay in the fight to see another birthday milestone.
Since joining Voices of Hope, I’ve already become a supporter of a few friends and family members recently diagnosed with various cancers. I know this is going to be a rewarding journey for me and those I meet along the way. I enjoy being there guiding and supporting the newly diagnosed, particularly because I can relate so easily to the anxiety I felt at the time. I wish my Mom and Dad were here today to see how far I’ve come as a survivor. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your journey.
