2025 Nationwide Staff Partner of the Year: Tammy Schoonover

We are proud to announce that Tammy Schoonover, Staff Partner for Relay For Life of Greater Tampa Bay, has been named the 2025 Nationwide Staff Partner of the Year as part of the Pat Flynn Spirit of Relay Awards. This honor recognizes an ACS staff partner who exemplifies the very best of volunteer-staff partnership and embodies the Spirit of Relay.

Tammy’s selection was shared earlier this year during a national all-staff call, where she was surprised with the announcement and recognized in front of colleagues from across the country.

In the nomination submitted by volunteer Tori Millington, Event Lead for Relay For Life of Greater Tampa Bay, Tammy was described as:

“Tammy embodies the spirit of Relay in a way that’s hard to put into words, not just through her dedication, but through the way she makes people feel. She shows up with her whole heart, meeting every moment with empathy, humility, and purpose. Whether it’s a late-night planning call, a survivor’s first lap, or the quiet stillness of the Luminaria ceremony, Tammy understands the weight and meaning behind every part of Relay For Life, and she treats each one with the care it deserves.”

As the staff partner for Relay For Life of Greater Tampa Bay, Tammy has been instrumental in driving exceptional year-over-year growth, strengthening volunteer leadership, and creating an event culture rooted in trust, collaboration, and care. Volunteers consistently describe her as a true partner—someone who empowers others to lead, celebrates every win, and ensures that survivors, caregivers, and volunteers always feel seen and supported.

Tammy Schoonover represents what is possible when staff leadership is grounded in heart, humility, and a deep belief in volunteers—and she is a shining example of the Spirit of Relay in action.
