2025 Nationwide Relayer of the Year: William Riddick

We are proud to announce that William Riddick, of Relay For Life of Hertford–Gates Counties (North Carolina), has been named the 2025 Nationwide Relayer of the Year as part of the Pat Flynn Spirit of Relay Awards. This honor recognizes an individual volunteer who exemplifies the very best of Relay For Life through leadership, fundraising excellence, and deep commitment to the American Cancer Society mission.

As one of the event leads for Relay For Life of Hertford–Gates Counties, William has helped guide the event to consistent year-over-year growth, culminating in an incredible $250,000 raised in 2025. As an individual, he raised over $70,000 this past year, and as team captain for Nucor Steel Hertford County, he helped lead one of the top fundraising teams in the nation through creative and community-driven efforts.

Beyond fundraising, William serves as the Southeast Region Relay For Life Liaison on the National Relay Leadership Team, representing volunteer voices and helping shape the future of Relay nationwide.

What truly sets William apart is his heart for the mission. As the son of a two-time cancer survivor, William leads with purpose and authenticity—sharing his story, uplifting fellow Relayers, and ensuring survivors and caregivers always feel seen, supported, and celebrated. Even in the face of personal challenges, he continues to show up for others with resilience, compassion, and hope.

William Riddick embodies the Spirit of Relay, proving that one dedicated volunteer can inspire an entire community—and help move us closer to ending cancer as we know it, for everyone.
