We are proud to announce that Relay For Life of Coastal Carolina University (South Carolina) has been named the 2025 Nationwide Campus Event of the Year as part of the Pat Flynn Spirit of Relay Awards. This honor recognizes a campus event that exemplifies the Spirit of Relay through outstanding fundraising growth, meaningful mission integration, and a powerful student-led experience.
In 2025, Relay For Life of Coastal Carolina University achieved a historic milestone, raising more than $152,000—the highest total in campus history and surpassing their original goal of $135,000. This achievement reflects the incredible dedication and leadership of the student Executive Leadership Team and the broader campus community.
In her nomination, Chinel Boateng, ACS Staff Partner for Relay For Life of Coastal Carolina University shared the importance of event lead Taylor Balint to this event’s success:
“Taylor planned her work and worked her plan. She started early, set her goals, and didn’t stop until she achieved it. Over $152,000 was raised, and 2025 was one of the most exciting CCU events that I have had the pleasure of working with. CCU has been recognized as one of the top ten Relay colleges in the U.S., and their ELT is on point and charged up to continue to exceed goals.”
The event stood out for its creative and heartfelt execution of Relay’s signature elements, including a moving Survivor Celebration, a powerful Luminaria Ceremony centered around the campus fountain, and interactive Fight Back activities that inspired students to commit to healthy lifestyle changes. The 2025 theme, “Waving Goodbye to Cancer,” brought together students, faculty, staff, and community partners in a shared experience of hope, remembrance, and action.
Relay For Life of Coastal Carolina University is a shining example of what is possible when strong student leadership and committed staff partnership come together—creating not just a successful event, but a true campus movement in the fight to end cancer as we know it.
