Announcing the 2024 Nationwide Campus Team of the Year: RIT Tech Crew

As part of the 2024 Pat Flynn Spirit of Relay Awards, we are excited to announce the RIT Tech Crew as the 2024 Campus Team of the Year! Since forming their team in 2013 in honor of two alumni lost to cancer, the Tech Crew has become a cornerstone of the Relay For Life of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), combining exceptional dedication, innovation, and passion for the cause.

Over the past 13 years, the Tech Crew has raised more than $97,000 for the American Cancer Society, consistently exceeding their annual $10,000 goal through contributions from friends, family, alumni, and matching gift programs. Their efforts go far beyond fundraising—they are deeply involved in mission activations, sharing resources like the ACS 1-800 number with fellow students, and partnering with the RIT Colleges Against Cancer club to engage the student body.

The Tech Crew’s impact is especially evident on Relay night, where they embody their motto, “first to arrive, last to leave.” From ensuring flawless audio and visuals to keeping energy levels high during the overnight hours, their contributions are indispensable. One of their most meaningful creations is the iconic HOPE sign, constructed and maintained by the team, which serves as the emotional centerpiece of the Luminaria Ceremony. As the lights dim and students quietly reflect, the HOPE sign radiates a powerful reminder of why we Relay.

Team captain Micki, a standout leader and expert Relayer, is among the first to register each season, recruiting her fellow crew members and rallying their unwavering support. Together, the Tech Crew brings enthusiasm, creativity, and a sense of purpose that exemplifies the heart of Relay For Life.

Congratulations, RIT Tech Crew, on being named the 2024 Campus Team of the Year!
