What is #RelayFirstLap?
#RelayFirstLap started with one volunteer’s vision to renew his commitment to Relay For Life and encouraged others to join him. Since then, Joe Gillette’s vision has spread globally and on the first Saturday of the New Year, Relayers worldwide take their first lap of the year together. We invite everyone to continue Joe’s vision and take your first steps of the season with us on January 10, and register for your local 2026 Relay For Life event!
What to Expect
We encourage each Relay For Life community to host their own RelayFirstLap, whether on January 10 or another time in January. Post your #RelayFirstLap photos on Facebook and tag @RelayFirstLap!
For our Campus Relay For Life events, we encourage you to use #RelayFirstLap in one of two ways:
- Host a #RelayFirstLap as part of your first spring semester tabling.
- Host a virtual #RelayFirstLap for your students by having them share their “lap” on social media regardless of where they are on January 10.
