The NCFLT works to represent and support community fundraising for Relay For Life, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, DetermiNation, and other community fundraising initiatives for the American Cancer Society. The team is responsible for creating and driving national and regional strategy for these major funders of the Society’s life-saving work.

NCFLT Co-Lead

Co-Leads play a crucial role in developing and implementing national strategies of community fundraising for the American Cancer Society. As a Co-Lead, you will work closely with your fellow Co-Lead and Supporting Staff Partner in managing the Executive Leadership Team and the National Community Fundraising Leadership Team (NCFLT) at large.

Priorities:
  • Collaborate with the members of the NCFLT Executive Team to identify, develop and implement national strategies to drive fundraising revenue for community fundraising events that support the Mission of the American Cancer (The Executive Team is made up of the volunteer leads and staff partners of the Product, Region/Division and Strategy teams.)
  • Determine the need for and oversee/support Strategy and Project Team
  • Collaborate with Product Leads and monitor KPIs – revenue trends, participation registration and revenue trends to identify successes and areas where the NCFLT can support growth.
  • Maintain consistent communication with your Co-Lead, Staff Partner, and Executive Team.
  • Ensure the NCFLT collaborates with the NCYET and develop relationships with the Youth Leadership Leads and the Community Liaison(s) Leads.
  • Be familiar with national volunteer trends and help determine where adjustments can be made to continue to stay relevant and meet changing needs with our community fundraising events.
  • Be the Nationwide volunteer voice for the NCFLT
  • Co-Facilitate NCFLT Meetings (virtual and in person)
  • Ensure Volunteer Leadership has meaningful experience in their roles
  • Facilitate the compilation of the annual NCFLT Impact Report
  • Facilitate succession planning in all NCFLT Roles
  • Attend Community Fundraising Events (where possible)

National leadership volunteers are expected to actively fundraise and raise a minimum of $500 annually.

NCFLT Communications Lead Role

This position will play a crucial role in increasing awareness of the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Mission and in supporting community fundraising volunteers through a variety of communication channels.

Priorities:

  • Analyze best practices for communicating with leadership volunteers and participants and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Develop and execute communication strategies for the product lines under the guidance of the NCFLT Executive Team.
  • Monitor ACS community fundraising pages/groups on Facebook.
  • Monitor and increase our presence on Instagram, TikTok and other social media platforms.
  • Help keep acsresources.org up to date and relevant.
  • Collaborate with the NCFLT Executive Team and Region Teams to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication channels.
  • Meet with the NCFLT Executive Team, Region Teams, and staff to determine changing trends and needs for new communication campaigns.
  • Be knowledgeable about and adhere to ACS brand guidelines in all communication.

How you will accomplish these priorities:

  • Recruit, with guidance of NCFLT Executive Team, a workgroup to help create and implement Communication Strategies (ideally, the Communications Team consists of 2 to 3 people).
  • Participate in monthly NCFLT Executive Team calls to discuss strategies for communication and determine relevant communication plans based on cycles of community fundraising for Relay For Life, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and DetermiNation events.
  • Participate in Region Team calls to discuss Region needs for communication support, social media assets, etc. Collaborate with Region Leads and their respective Strategic Directors to determine how you can support their needs.

Region Community Fundraising Lead /Co-Lead

Lead the Region/Division Community Fundraising Leadership Team (R/DCFLT) to implement national strategies, regional/divisional priorities and empower community volunteers to drive the success and growth of all American Cancer Society (ACS) events and community-based fundraising efforts within your region/division.

Priorities:
  • Be the primary region/division volunteer voice to the National Community Fundraising Leadership Team (NCFLT) to advocate for ACS volunteers and drive implementation of strategic priorities within your region/division.
  • Along with your staff partner, build a strong, supportive and collaborative RCFLT, whose members will work on projects to support the efforts of the region
  • Collaborate with other Region Leads on the NCFLT to influence and assist in the development and implementation of national strategies.
  • Utilize ACS reports and communication with events to follow the successes and opportunities of region events and provide specific support to event leadership volunteers to drive increases in event metrics, especially in terms of participation and fundraising
  • Be a source of encouragement and recognition for leadership
  • Serve as the voice for the events in your region, sharing their best practices and their challenges with the RCFLT.
  • Talent scout and help develop volunteers within your region/division to maintain a consistently strong pipeline of leadership volunteers.
How you will accomplish these priorities:
  • Working with your staff partner, build a strong RCFLT of volunteers and then coach, mentor, and hold those volunteers accountable for their priorities.
  • Organize check-ins, virtual and in-person when geography allows, with staff partner(s) to discuss the state of ACS events and priorities within your region.
  • Plan and facilitate region calls and collaborate between calls with fellow region volunteers through consistent communication within your region/division.
  • Ensure that region team members are getting the information they need to support projects they are working on.
  • Maintain a roster of leadership volunteers on the RCFLT and continue to add members on a regular basis as leaders and projects are working on.
  • Communicate to RCFLT members about new initiatives, best practices, and challenges happening at a region/division or nationwide level.
  • Participate on monthly nationwide Region Lead calls to collaborate with NCFLT
  • If geographically able, attend ACS events in your region, along with meetings or fundraisers throughout the year. At these events, provide recognition as a leadership volunteer, check in with volunteers on their successes and challenges, and remind volunteers of their value to the mission of the American Cancer Society.
Potential projects:

Working with your staff partner, you will decide what is needed to elevate the events in your region. You will create project teams to help in the development of various regional strategies. For example, Recruitment, Fundraising, Volunteer Development, Mission, Recognition, etc.

Participate in the National Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC) Leadership Team (NSLT) to empower areas to implement national strategies consistently, maintain the health of the volunteer leadership model, and drive the success and growth of MSABC and community-based fundraising efforts.

Members of the NSLT will be chosen based on their skill-set and strategic thinking. They will be assigned a region/division to represent with the collaborative approval of the region’s/division’s community fundraising team’s volunteer lead and staff partner, along with the NSLT volunteer lead and staff partner. They will not live in the region they are assigned to represent.

Priorities:
  • Assist in development of national strategy and represent your assigned region as a member of the (NSLT).
  • Be the primary volunteer voice and collaborate with the region’s/division’s leadership team to support the growth and vitality of MSABC in that region/division.
  • Ensure that strategies from the national level are being communicated and enacted across the region/division, working with various leadership volunteers as needed.
  • Seek to understand the volunteer successes and challenges occurring in the region/division, and work alongside your leadership team to problem solve and address areas in need of improvement
How you will accomplish these priorities:
  • Participate in monthly NSLT calls to develop/discuss strategies and voice volunteer support priorities for the region/division.
  • Participate in monthly calls with your Community Fundraising region/division leadership team, providing a presentation of updates regarding MSABC revenue, initiatives and progress
  • Participate in regional/divisional projects to contribute to the development of national strategies and tactics
  • Identify key MSABC volunteers within your region/division, and then coach, mentor, and hold those volunteers accountable as needed
  • Foster an environment of growth and enthusiasm within the current leadership in your region/division.

You are empowered to develop and implement national strategies consistently, maintain the health of the volunteer leadership model, and drive the success and growth of Relay and community-based fundraising efforts.
