2025 Nationwide Strider of the Year: Tara Pfohl

We are proud to announce that Tara Pfohl, of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Buffalo (New York), has been named the 2025 Nationwide Spirit of Strides Strider of the Year. This honor recognizes an individual who exemplifies the Spirit of Strides through extraordinary leadership, advocacy, and commitment to the mission.

Since 2021, Tara has raised more than $48,000, earning the distinction of top individual fundraiser for three consecutive years. As a metastatic breast cancer thriver, Tara uses her voice to educate, inspire, and remind others that research, early detection, and community support save lives.

In the nomination submitted by Katie Pirro, ACS staff partner for Making Strides of Buffalo, Tara was described as:

“Despite living with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, Tara continues to show up with strength and grace. Her willingness to be vulnerable creates connection, understanding, and hope throughout our entire community.”

Even while undergoing weekly chemotherapy, Tara continues to advocate for others, share ACS resources, and ensure no one facing breast cancer feels alone.

Tara Pfohl embodies what Making Strides is all about—turning her story into action and inspiring hundreds of others to join the fight to end breast cancer as we know it, for everyone.
